Pillar Youth

"Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the difficult days come, And the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them”: Ecclesiastes 12

‘Pillar Youth’ is the name given to the youth of St Bishoy’s and St Shenouda’s Coptic Orthodox Church.

The name ‘pillar youth’ is derived from our two beloved patron saints.

Saint Bishoy was a monk who was known for his wisdom, humility, courage, simplicity and generosity to strangers. His abundant love and Christian hospitality earned him the blessing of seeing Christ on several occasions, and he was even able to wash the feet of Jesus.

Saint Shenouda, who was also a monk, was a political and social reformer of his time. He was known amongst his people as a leader of the Copts, and a zealous voice for the oppressed and marginalised. Throughout his life, he became a teacher to many monks and nuns, providing spiritual guidance to many within his community.

These two blessed men were just some of the strong pillars that upheld the faith and doctrine of the Coptic church - each in their own unique way. Therefore, in remembrance of our beloved saints, we are called St Bishoy’s and St Shenouda’s Pillar Youth!

Pillar Youth meets weekly on Friday evenings at 7pm. Our youth meetings usually commence with a small talk that runs for 30 minutes to 1 hour, followed by food and fellowship.
